Dear Educators,

It is with great pride and pleasure that we present the 2007-2008 Student Discovery Series sponsored by the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation. We believe we have a great mix of educational entertainment for your students, and are confident that you will have no trouble finding just the right performance for your needs.

This season you will find productions based on both enormously popular and award winning books. Favorites such as The Rainbow Fish, If You Give a Pig a Party, and Harry the Dirty Dog, Caldecott Honor winner Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and Newbery Honor winner Lily’s Crossing have all been professionally adapted for the stage. As well as our literature based productions, we present Salem Justice, and Freedom Train, which chronicle notable scenes from American History. Additionally, this season we are to bring a performance that will increase the understanding of a negative cultural phenomenon with dangerous implications for many young people. Dying to be Thin is a powerful and unwavering look at eating disorders as seen through the eyes of one young woman who has fallen victim to distorted body image. While this is an unusual topic for the Student Discovery Series, we are proud to be able to use arts to approach such a critical and sensitive issue.

We wish to thank the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation for their continued support which has been instrumental in helping us provide high quality educational programming for students throughout the Fox Valley area. Our sincere gratitude is also extended to the many educators who believe strongly that the arts fire imagination, ignite curiosity, and have an important place in the education of children. Thank you for your support of this series and for allowing The Grand to become part of your classroom. Discovery is the key to education.

Our Student Discovery Series offers performances for children in grade school through high school. Some of our SDS events are literary based, but the series also includes theatrical productions. A state-recognized program, it reaches nearly 11,000 students annually.

The following is a list of performances for the 2007-2008 school year. Next to each event is its suggested audience age/grade level.
